by Fernand Gregh (1873 - 1960)

Le silence de l'eau
Language: French (Français)
Le grand jet d'eau qui sanglotait
Nuit et jour, âme inconsolée
Sous la voute à demi croulée
Est mort cette nuit et se tait

Et le vent fou qui l'insultait
Et chassait sa gerbe en volée
Mêle les feuilles de l'allée
A son silence qui chantait

Mais sa tristesse survit toute
Tandis qu'autrefois à goutte
Tressaillait l'écho de la voute.

Maintenant l'eau qui remuait
Semble un lac de pleurs sourds...
Écoute : il y rode un sanglot muet.
