Wie selig ists, zu sehn, wenn Stunden wieder tagen,
Wo sich vergnügt der Mensch umsieht in den Gefilden,
Wenn Menschen sich um das Befinden fragen,
Wenn Menschen sich zum frohen Leben bilden.
Wie sich der Himmel wölbt, und auseinander dehnet,
So ist die Freude dann an Ebnen und im Freien,
Wenn sich das Herz nach neuem Leben sehnet,
Die Vögel singen, zum Gesange schreien.
Der Mensch, der oft sein Inneres gefraget,
Spricht von dem Leben dann, aus dem die Rede gehet,
Wenn nicht der Gram an einer Seele naget,
Und froh der Mann vor seinen Gütern stehet.
Wenn eine Wohnung prangt, in hoher Luft gebauet,
So hat der Mensch das Feld geräumiger und Wege
Sind weit hinaus, daß Einer um sich schauet,
Und über einen Bach gehen wohlgebaute Stege.

How lovely it is to see when the times again dawn,
When people gaze contently about in the meadows,
When people ask each other how they are,
When people compose themselves for joyous living.
Just as the heavenly vault arches and broadens,
So it is with happiness then in the lowlands and outdoors,
When the heart yearns for new life,
The birds sing, crying out in song.
The person who often questioned his inner being
Talks of life then -- [life] from which his speech emanates,
When sorrow does not gnaw at the soul,
And one stands happily before one's possessions.
When a dwelling place is clothed in splendor, built high in the air,
Then mankind finds the field roomier and pathways
Lead away out into the far distance, that one may look about,
And well-built crossings span a stream.
