Es rauschte leise in den Bäumen, Ich hörte nur der Ströme Lauf, Und Berg und Gründe, wie aus Träumen, Sie sahn so fremd zu mir herauf. Drin aber in der stillen Halle Ruht' Sang und Plaudern müde aus, Es schliefen meine Lieben alle, Kaum wieder kannt ich nun mein Haus. Mir war's, als lägen sie zur Stunde Gestorben, bleich im Mondenschein, Und schauernd in der weiten Runde Fühlt ich auf einmal mich allein. So blickt in Meeres öden Reichen Ein Schiffer einsam himmelan - O Herr, wenn einst die Ufer weichen, Sei gnädig du dem Steuermann!

Jak v pokraji stál bych žití, z háje tak zírám v dál, kde v stříbrných vod lesklou síti, se kraj plný vábů spjal. Tu s výše zvonku se spouští, stříbrný v údolí hlas, až srna se zachví v houští, však klidně dál dříme zas. A bor svoji korunu sklání, jak sen by tu dýchl v háj, světa Pán dlí nad tichou strání a v dálný žehná kraj, sám Pán dlí nad tichou strání a v dálný žehná kraj.
