Когда лежит луна ломтем чарджуйской дыни
На краешке окна, и духота кругом,
Когда закрыта дверь, и заколдован дом
Воздушной веткой голубых глициний,
И в чашке глиняной холодная вода,
И полотенца снег, и свечка восковая
Горит, как в детстве, мотыльков сзывая,
Грохочет тишина, моих не слыша слов, -
Тогда из черноты рембрандтовских углов
Склубится что-то вдруг и спрячется туда же,
Но я не встрепенусь, не испугаюсь даже...
Здесь одиночество меня поймало в сети.
Хозяйкин черный кот глядит, как глаз столетий,
И в зеркале двойник не хочет мне помочь.
Я буду сладко спать. Спокойной ночи, ночь.

Als de maan als een Tsjardzjoejsche meloenschijf 
in het venster ligt, en rondom stoffig,
Als de gesloten deur, en het betoverde huis,
de luchttakken van de blauwe regens,
En het koud water in het kleipotje,
En de handdoeken als sneeuw, en de wassen kandelaar 
brandt, zoals in de kinderjaren, roepend de motten,
rommelt de stilte, hoort niet mijn woorden, -
Dan uit de zwartheid van Rembrandts hoeken
kirmpt plots iets inelkaar, verbergt zich precies daar,
maar ik zal niet verbaasd zijn, en zelfs niet bang zijn.
Hier kan mijn eenzaamheid gevangen zijn in een net.
De huisbaas’ kat kijkt, als met een honderdjarig oog,
En in de spiegel wil mijn tweeling mij niet helpen.
Ik zal zacht slapen. Goedenacht, nacht.
