Schläft tief die Welt im Grunde,
Die Berge rings stehn auf der Wacht,
Der Himmel macht die Runde,
Geht um und um,
Ums Land herum
Mit seinen goldnen Scharen,
Die Frommen zu bewahren.

Kommt nur heran mit eurer List,
Mit Leitern, Strick und Banden,
Der Herr doch noch viel stärker ist,
Macht euren Witz zuschanden.
Wie wart ihr klug! -
Nun schwindelt Trug
Hinab vom Felsenrande -
Wie seid ihr dumm! o Schande!

el món dorm profundament,
les muntanyes del voltant fan la guàrdia,
el cel fa la ronda,
gira i gira
al voltant de la terra
amb les àuries hosts
per guardar els fidels.

Apropeu-vos tan sols amb la vostra astúcia,
amb escales, cordes i cadenes,
però el Senyor és encara molt més fort,
i fa fracassar la vostra estratagema.
Que llestos éreu! –
Però la vostra argúcia s’esmuny
pel marge del rocam. –
Que necis que sou! Oh vergonya!

Com els arbres del bosc,
volem mantenir-nos junts,
un castell fort, defensa de l’atac,
els vells resten fidels.
Surt, oh formós sol!
