T’haig de dir el nom del meu país? Ho has de preguntat a algú altre, per a qui els amples espais del cel estrellat i el país dels somnis són ben coneguts. El meu país es troba en un cercle daurat, cap ruta a peu o en vaixell no pot mai arribar a les seves formoses, argentades, suaus costes i ribes, cap boca de savi anomena el seu nom; i, tanmateix, n’hi ha molts que d’allí vingueren, molts que en nits d’enyorança el somien, llunyà, a la regió de les estrelles, que en la basarda i el deler el criden, que crearen la seva imatge en llurs ànimes obscures i en aquesta imatge reclogueren l’averany de tot el que és millor, és gran, i tot l’amor. Jo sóc un d’ells i, sense pausa, em dirigeixo vers aquell cercle daurat. El so de la teva veu i l’afalagador perfum dels teus cabells desperten en mi un meravellós i estimat record d’aquell país, del qual jo intuïa i sentia la benaurança indicible i incògnita d’aquell dia en el que et vaig trobar.
