O gij dikke, welgeklede, welgevoede vliege, die
'k daar zo dikwijls, om en weder om mij, hoor en zie
vliegen, varen, vederen, ruisen, in de zonnestraal,
met uw ronkend-, hoog- en leeggevooisde vedertaal!

Ha, ik kenne niemand die u ooit één arme reke of twee
heeft geschonken, schoon gij zingt en immer zongt, alreê
ruim zo lang als merelaan, of mees, of nachtegaal,
ruim zo schoon allicht als honingbie- en krekeltaal.

O gij dikke, weltevreden, welgezinde snaartrompet,
nooit en zag ik of hoorde ik uwe vlerken, net
lijk twee glazen ruitjes, daverende, 't zij laat of vroeg,
of 't was helder zomerweder, en de zonne loeg!

O gij aardig dierke, 'k wou dat ik, zo wel als alle mens,
zo gij schijnt te hebben, had mijn hert en wil en wens,
en dat ge ons, al ronkend in de mooie zonneschijn,
wist de weg te wijzen naar 't gestadig blijde zijn!
