Wenn du mich anblickst, werd' ich schön,
schön wie das Riedgras auf dem Tau.
Wenn ich zum Fluss hinuntersteige,
erkennt das Schilf mein sel'ges Angesicht nicht mehr.
Ich schäme mich des tristen Munds,
der Stimme, der zerriss'nen, meiner rauhen Knie.
Jetzt, da du mich, herbeigeeilt, betrachtest,
fand ich mich arm, fühlt' ich mich bloß.
Die Nacht ist da. Auf's Riedgras fällt der Tau.
Senk lange deinen Blick auf mich.
Umhüll michzärtlich durch dein Wort.
Schon morgen wird, wenn sie zum Fluss hinuntersteigt,
die du geküsst, von Schönheit strahlen.
