Mycene eert als koning mij, 'k Mag werken aan mijn droom, En zacht boven mijn schedel ruist Des levens gouden boom. De lente siert in 't ochtenduur Mijn pad met rozen rood En op de liefdesgolven zweeft Vooruit mijn lichte boot. Diana komt: o jij die redt, Wil mijn gebed verstaan! Laat mij, mijn grootste wens is dat, Nu naar mijn vaad'ren gaan!
1 Mayrhofer had hier: 'Ich rufe dir', hetgeen inhoudelijk goed aansloot bij wat er op volgt. Maar Schubert gaf blijkbaar de voorkeur aan een tegenstelling. In sommige Schubertedities staat achter 'sanft' een dubbele punt, maar dit is zowel inhoudelijk als dynamisch dus onlogisch.
