Alle Bäume neigen
Still ihr Haupt zur Ruh;
Nur das Bächlein leise
Singt die alte Weise,
Murmelt immerzu.
Lautlos wandeln Schatten
Über dunkle Matten
In das stille Thal
Und das Rohr am Teiche
Rauscht im Schattenreiche,
Alles schläft zumal.
Durch die hohen Bäume
In die stillen Räume
Blickt das Mondgesicht;
Aus der weiten Ferne
Senden goldne Sterne
Erdenwärts ihr Licht.
Und im tiefen Frieden
Webt das Herz hienieden
Einen goldnen Traum --
Sendet alle Schmerzen
Zu dem Vaterherzen
In den Himmelsraum.

Only the brooklet softly
Sings its old lay,
Murmuring incessantly.
Shadows travel soundlessly
Over dark meadows
Into the quiet valley
And the reeds by the pond
Sough in the shadowy realm,
Everything is sleeping.
Through the tall trees,
Into the silent expanses
Peers the face of the moon;
Out of the far distance,
Golden stars send
Their light earthward.
And in deep peace
The heart here below
Weaves a golden dream --
Sending all its pain
To the heart of the Father
Into the expanse of heaven.
