De klare dag
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Available translation(s): ENG

Breed straalt des hemels blauw in effen pracht,
Waarlangs de vlokkig donzen wolkjes zweven.

O Eudia! Gezegend tooverwoord!
Dat vredebrengend als gewijde zangen,
Of als Homerisch lied mijn ziel doortrilt,

Gij hebt de stormen in mijn borst gestild!
Met plechtig zwijgen mijn gemoed ontvangen,
En slechts mijn tranen druppen zachtkens voort.

The bright day
Language: English  after the Dutch (Nederlands)
The bright day, that laughs beautifully and glowingly,
has, shame-red, driven away the wild host of clouds,
restored peace to the tattered foliage,
and brought sunlit silence over the world.

The coolness (stillness) courses refreshingly through the lanes,
Only between the moist leaves drops are gently falling,
Broadly the heavens' blue shines in perfect splendour,
in which flaky, downy little clouds float.

O Eudia! Blessed magic word!
That pacifying as sacred hymns,
or as Homeric song pervades my soul

Thou hast quenched the storms within my breast!
With solemn silence received my affliction
And only my tears keep falling softly the while.
