Слава тебе, безысходная боль!
Умер вчера сероглазый король.

Вечер осенний был душен и ал,
Муж мой, вернувшись, спокойно сказал:

«Знаешь, с охоты его принесли,
Тело у старого дуба нашли.

Жаль королеву. Такой молодой!..
За ночь одну она стала седой».

Трубку свою на камине нашёл
И на работу ночную ушёл.

Дочку мою я сейчас разбужу,
В серые глазки её погляжу.

А за окном шелестят тополя:
«Нет на земле твоего короля...»

Le roi aux yeux gris

Gloire à toi, douleur sans espoir !
Hier le roi aux yeux gris est mort.

Le soir d'automne était étouffant et rouge.
Mon mari, en revenant, dit calmement :

"Tu sais, ils l'ont ramené de la chasse,
Ils l'ont trouvé, son corps près d'un chêne.

C'est un malheur pour la reine. Il était si jeune !
En une soirée ses cheveux sont devenus gris."

Il prit sa pipe du foyer
Et sortit pour son travail de nuit.

Je réveille aussitôt ma fille,
Dans ses yeux gris je regarde.

Derrière la fenêtre les peupliers murmurent :
"Ton roi n'est plus sur cette terre."
