Das Röselein vom Regen gar arg...

The rose
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The fragrant rose down stricken by heavy rain Hangs drooping 'mong the branches As though in pain. With glitt'ring drops o'erflowing the rose appears, As if her sorrow mowing in silent tears. Too eagerly I grasp'd it and pluck'd the prize, A las, I roughly crush'd it. There bruis'd it lies! Thus feels a gentle spirit, wounded and sore; And like the rose that's broken, blooms never more.
From the Kücken score.
