Where the rock threw back the billow
Brighter than snow. 
Dwelt a maid beloved and cherish'd
By high and low,
But with autumn leaf she perished
Long time ago.
Rock and tree and flowing water
Long time ago,
Bird and bee and blossom taught her 
Love's spell to know.
While to my fond words she listen'd
Murmuring low,
Tenderly her blue eyes glisten'd
Long time ago.

Tanto tempo fa,
là dove lo scoglio respinge le onde
più della neve lucenti,
una fanciulla abitava, amata e adorata
da grandi e piccini,
ma con le foglie d'autunno è morta,
tanto tempo fa.
Le rocce, gli alberi e l'acqua che scorre
Tanto tempo fa,
le api, gli uccelli e i fiori la guidarono
a conoscere l'incanto dell'amore.
Mentre ascoltava le mie parole ardenti
in lieve sussurro,
dolcemente luccicavano i suoi occhi azzurri
tanto tempo fa.
