Saa lys er Morgnens første Stund
Med Guld over Skovenes Side
Saa frejdig danser det friske Sund
Og mellem Lysstriber hvide
Skibene lydløst glide.
 
Jeg drømte om Dig, jeg tænker paa Dig,
Og atter og atter gentager jeg,
Dit Navn paa de blæsende Strande.
Og Skibene synes at hilse mig
Med Flag over Sejlenes Rande,
Paa Togt mod de fremmede Lande.
 
Mit Liv er ligt en saadan Fart,
Snart stille i Havn, paa Rejse snart,
Med Skum for den pløjende Planke.
Kaptajnen paa Dækket, og alting klart,
Og ikke en hæmmende Tanke
Om, havd der kan ske paa en Banke.

Si lumineuse la première heure du matin,
Avec de l’or sur les flancs des forêts,
Comme il danse, joyeux, le frais détroit,
Et parmi les blanches traînées de lumière,
Les navires glissent silencieusement.

Je rêvais de toi, je pense à toi,
Encore et encore,
Je répète ton nom sur les plages battues de vent.
Et les navires semblent me saluer,
Avec leurs pavillons déployés au bord des voiles,
En route vers les terres étrangères.

Ma vie ressemble à un tel voyage :
Tantôt paisible au port, tantôt en voyage,
Avec l’écume devant l’étrave qui sillonne les flots.
