Sanft glänzt die Abendsonne
Auf diese stille Flur,
Und strahlet Ruh und Wonne
Auf jede Kreatur.
Sie zeichnet Licht und Schatten
Auf die beblümte Au,
Und auf den grünen Matten,
Blitzt der krystallne Thau.

Hier in der Zephir'n Spiele,
Bei'm frohen Vögelchor,
Hier steigen Hochgefühle
In meiner Brust empor.
Ich athme süße Freuden
Auf diesem Tempe ein,
Mich fliehen Gram und Leiden
Im milden Abendschein'. 

Dir, der die Abendröthe
Am Himmel ausgespannt,
Und süßes Nachtgeflöte
Auf diese Flur gesandt;
Dir sei dies Herz geweihet,
Das reiner Dank durchglüht;
Es schlage noch erfreuet
Wenn einst das Leben flieht!
