Könnt' ich einmal wieder singen,
Wär' ich wiederum gesund,
Aber noch will's Herz zerspringen,
Und im Trauern schweigt der Mund.

Kaum, daß die so leise Klage
Aus dem vollen Busen drang,
Wie an einem Wintertage
Oft schon halb ein Vogel sang.

Wie aus Wolken eng verschlossen
Halb oft dringt ein Sonnenblick,
Bald von Regen übergossen,
Wiederkehrt in sich zurück,

Also hellte mein Gemüte
Ach nur kurz ein lichter Traum,
Und vom aufgeweckten Liede
Hallten diese Töne kaum.

El deixondir del cant

Si de nou pogués cantar
em posaria bo un altre cop,
però el meu cor es vol trencar encara,
i d’aflicció la boca emmudeix.

Prou que aquest plany tan silenciós
es fa palès des del meu cor sencer,
com en un dia d’hivern
sovint l’ocell canta a mitja veu.

Tal com des dels núvols estretament compactes
sovint penetra a mitges un raig de sol,
adés, ruixat per la pluja,
es replega en si mateix.

Així llostrejava el meu esperit,
ai, tan sols breument un lúcid somni,
i del cant que s’havia deixondit,
a penes ressonaven les notes.
