Kloge Jarler til hende kom,
varligt de bøjed den haarde Vilje.
Dog kunde Gudrun ikke græde;

som om briste hun skulde.

Assise inconsolable auprès de la dépouille de Sigurd,
Elle restait silencieuse, sans pleurer,
Elle ne se frappait pas de ses mains
Elle ne gémissait pas comme les autres femmes.
Des comtes avisés s'approchèrent d'elle,
Prudemment, pour apaiser ses cruelles pensées,
Mais Gudrun ne pouvait pleurer ;
Elle avait tant de peine
