Leise rauschend durch Ruinen zieht der Abendwind,
  Flüstert alte, düstre Mären, die vergessen sind.
Sucht in der Ruine Schweigen eine Grabesstatt.
  Von den Bäumen, herbstestraurig, sinkt nun Blatt auf Blatt,
  Fallen wird auch sie, die trotzig manch Jahrhundert stand.
Ziehen werden, wo sie ragte, Nebel übers Land.
  "Märchenhaft ist dieses Leben," seufzt der Abendwind; --
In der heißen Brust erglommen mir zwei Wünsche sind:
  Meinem Leben eine Seele, die sich meiner eint,
Meinem Grabe eine Träne, die die Liebe weint!
