Hei, spillemænd, op med en lystig danse,
lad buen gå rapt over strenge.
Så danse vi ud i den duftende kveld
vidt ud over alle enge.

Hei, spillemænd, op med en lystig dans,
så frem med jer, gutter og jenter!
Og jeg skal gå først, for iaften jeg ved,
at ikke på mig hun venter.

Og så skal vi danse den lange nat,
for hun favnes nu af en anden.
Og bring mig så hidhen en sølvtung pokal
og fyld den med vin til randen.

Jeg drikker din skål, du min hjertenskjær,
mens nattågen drar over enge,
og dansen går vild i den duftende kveld
til toner fra alle strenge.

Allez, musicien, debout pour une joyeuse danse,
faites glisser l’archet rapidement sur les cordes.
Nous danserons alors dans cette soirée parfumée
à perte de vue, par-delà toutes les prairies.

Allez, musicien, debout pour une joyeuse danse,
en avant donc, tous, garçons et filles !
Et je marcherai en tête car ce soir je sais
qu’elle ne viendra pas.

Et ainsi nous danserons tout au long de la nuit,
car elle est maintenant dans les bras d'un autre.
Apportez-moi donc une coupe en argent,
et remplissez-la de vin jusqu'au bord.

Je bois à ta santé, toi, mon amour,
tandis que la brume nocturne s'étend sur les prairies,
et que la danse s'emballe dans cette soirée parfumée
au son de toutes les cordes.
