Anguish
Language: English  after the Moravian (Moravština)
Ere the apple ripen'd, from its bough 'twas shaken, Oh! its fall did sorrow in my heart awaken. Nay, 'twas more than sorrow, 'twas like anguish rapping: Worse than keen knives cutting, 'twas like daggers stabbing. Worse than daggers stabbing, 'tis like rough saws sawing, False love that betrayed me, at my heart is gnawing.
From the Simrock edition of Dvořák's op. 38.
