Abendständchen. An Lina
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG ENG FRE ITA
Sey sanft, wie ihre Seele,
Und heiter, wie ihr Blick,
O Abend! und vermähle
Mit seltner Treu das Glück.

Wenn alles schläft, und trübe
Die stille Lampe scheint,
Nur hoffnungslose Liebe
[Noch helle]1 Thränen weint:

Will ich, laß mir's gelingen!
Zu ihrem Fenster gehn,
Ein Lied [von Liebe]2 singen;
Und [schmachtend]3 nach ihr sehn.

Vielleicht, daß Klagetöne
Von meinem Saitenspiel
Mehr wirken auf die Schöne,
Mehr reizen ihr Gefühl;

Vielleicht daß meine Saiten
Und meine Phantasie'n
Ein Herz zur Liebe leiten,
Das unempfindlich schien.

Wenn sie, im sanften Schlummer
Durch Lieder gern gestört,
Halbträumend meinen Kummer
Und meine Leiden hört;

Dann bang, und immer bänger,
Von ihrem Lager steigt,
Und was er litt, ihr Sänger,
Sich selber überzeugt:

Dann leucht' aus deiner Höhe
Herab, geliebter Mond!
Daß ich die [Thräne]4 sehe,
Die meinen Schmerz belohnt.

Avondserenade. Voor Lina
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Wees zacht zoals haar ziel is
En helder als haar blik,
En, avond, wat fragiel is:
Paar trouw aan broos geluk.

Als alles slaapt en lamplicht
Een stille glans verspreidt,
En liefde zonder uitzicht
Vaak helle tranen schreit:

Zal ik -- kon ik 't bedingen --
Zacht naar haar raam toe gaan,
Een lied van liefde zingen,
Verliefd mijn blik opslaan.

Misschien dat droeve tonen,
Afkomstig van mijn luit,
Bereiken bij die schone,
Dat haar gevoel ontspruit;

Misschien dat deze snaren
En wat 'k er weef omheen,
't Hart liefde doen ervaren
Dat ongevoelig scheen.

Als zij, door slaap bevangen,
Door lied'ren graag gestoord,
Half dromend mijn verlangen
En mijn verdriet aanhoort;

Dan bang en steeds nog banger
Opstaat vanaf haar bed
En 't lijden van haar zanger
Voor zich hoort neergezet;

Laat dan je licht neerstromen,
O maan, daar hoog getroond!
Dat ik de traan zie komen
Die mijn verdriet beloont.
