Schlaflose Nacht, der Regen rauscht,
Sehr wach ist mir das Herz und lauscht
Zurück bald nach vergangnen Zeiten,
Bald horcht es, wie die künftgen schreiten.

O Herz, dein Lauschen ist nicht gut;
Sei ewig, Herz, und hochgemut!
Da hinten ruft so manche Klage,
Und vorwärts zittert manche Frage.

Wohlan! was sterblich war, sei tot!
Naht Sturm! wohlan! - wie einst das Boot
Mit Christus Stürme nicht zerschellten,
So ruht in dir der Herr der Welten.

Ô cœur, ton écoute n'est pas bonne ;
Sois constant, mon cœur et confiant !
Car derrière tant de peines appellent
Et devant tant de questions tremblent.

Alors, soit ! Que meure ce qui est périssable !
Tempête, approche ! Soit ! Jadis le bateau
Avec le Christ à bord n'a pas été brisé par les tempêtes,
Et les seigneur du monde repose en toi.
