Es singt die Natur dennoch dem, welcher sie schuf, Ihr Getön schallet vom Himmel herab, [lautpreisend]1 In umwölkender Nacht rufet des Strahls Gefährt Von den Wipfeln, und der Berg' Haupt es herab! Es rauschet der Hain, und sein Bach lispelt es auch Mit empor, preisend, ein Feyrer, wie er! die Luft wehts Zu dem Bogen mit auf! Hoch in der Wolke ward Der Erhaltung und der Huld Bogen gesetzt. Und schweigest denn du, welchen Gott ewig erschuf? Und [verstumst]2 mitten im Preis' um dich her? Gott hauchte Dir Unsterblichkeit ein! Danke dem Herlichen! Aber Orion schaut Auf den Gürtel, nach der Urn schauet er nicht! Ach gösse dich einst, Schaale, Gott auf [den]6 Altar, So zerfiel Trümmer die Schöpfung! es bräch des Leun Herz! Es versiegte die Urn'! [hallete]7 Todeston Um die Leyer! und gewelkt sänke der Kranz! Dort schuf sie der Herr! hier dem Staub näher den Mond, [So]8, Genoß schweigender kühlender Nacht, sanft schimmernd Die Erdulder des Strahls heitert! in jener Nacht Der Entschlafnen da umstrahlt einst sie Gestirn! Zij zingen zijn lof, veld en woud, berg en vallei, Ja, de kust galmt het, ook buldert de zee, dof bruisend, Van haar Schepper de lof, van de Oneindige, Niet bereikt nog door het danklied der natuur! Toch zingt de natuur juist voor hem die haar eens schiep, Haar geluid schalt van de hemel omlaag, luid prijzend, In de wolkvolle nacht roept zacht de stralenglans Van de bomen en de bergtop het omlaag! Zo ruist daar het bos, en de beek lispelt het ook Mee omhoog, prijzend, een juicher temeer! De wind waait Naar de hemel het op! Hoog in de wolken werd Om de redding en als dank een boog gezet. Kun zwijgen dan jij, jij die God eeuwig eens schiep? Jij verstomt midden in 't koor om je heen? God blies jou Juist onsterf'lijkheid in. Dank dus de Heerlijke! Onbereikt blijft door 't gezang de gever toch1. Hef toch 't lied maar aan! Zing Hem lof, prijs hem, o jij, Die ontving! Jij klinkt luid Bij de werv'lende dans, welke, bezield door jou, De planeet volgt in zijn omloop om jou heen.
