Er streicht mir leis das glühende Gesicht, Und aus den lieben, treuen Augen bricht Ein stolzer Strahl der hellsten Vaterfreude: "Ach, müde, Vater? ... Müde bin ich nicht!" Ich küss' ihn innig, inniger als sonst, Und wieder huscht das heimlich stille Lachen Um seinen Mund, dann läßt er mich allein. Durch die Gardinen lugt der Mond herein, Ich aber falte träumend meine Hände: "Du lieber Gott, wie glücklich kann man sein!"
