Es floh die Zeit im Wirbelfluge
Und trug des Lebens Plan mit sich.
Wohl stürmisch war es auf dem Zuge,
Beschwerlich oft und widerlich.

So ging es fort durch alle Zonen,
Durch Kinderjahre, [Jugendglück]1,
Durch Thäler, wo die Freuden wohnen,
Die sinnend sucht der Sehnsucht Blick.

Bis an der Freundschaft lichtem Hügel
Die Zeit nun sanfter, stiller flog,
Und endlich da die raschen Flügel
In süßer Ruh zusammenbog.

Le vol du temps

Le temps s'est enfui dans un vol tourbillonnant
Et a emporté avec lui le programme de la vie.
Ce fut tout à fait tempétueux pendant le voyage,
Souvent épuisant et déplaisant.

Ainsi il va à travers chaque âge,
À travers les années d'enfance, à travers le bonheur de la jeunesse,
À travers les vallées dans lesquelles les joies vivent,
Recherché par le regard pensif de la nostalgie.

Jusqu'à ce que sur la colline brillante de l'amitié
Le temps soit arrivé, maintenant plus doucement et plus calmement.
Et là enfin ses ailes rapides
Dans un doux repos se replient.
