by Adolf Friedrich, Graf von Schack (1815 - 1894)

Die letzten Strahlen verglimmen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  FRE
Die letzten Strahlen verglimmen,
Vom Heerrauch dunkelt das Moor,
Mir tönen bekannte Stimmen
Im Winde der Nacht ans Ohr.

Blasse, nebelnde Schatten
Kommen und schwinden zurück
Und schauen mich an mit dem matten,
Dem todesstarren Blick.

Sie sprechen von alten Tagen,
Von alter Lieb' und Lust
Und sinken mit Weinen und Klagen
Mir an die klopfende Brust.

Still, Herz; du hoffst vergebens,
Daß der Tod es zurück dir giebt,
Was in dämmernder Frühe des Lebens
Du einst gehabt und geliebt.
