Ich sah dich gern im Sonnenschein
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich sah dich gern im Sonneschein,
Wenn laut die Vöglein sangen,
Wenn durch die Wangen und Lippen dein
Rosig die Strahlen drangen.

Ich sah dich auch gern im Mondenlicht
Beim Dufte der Jasminen,
Wenn mir dein freundlich Angesicht
So silberbleich erschienen.

Doch, Mädchen, gern hätt' ich dich auch,
Wenn ich dich gar nicht sähe
Und fühlte nur deines Mundes Hauch
In himmlisch warmer Nähe.

I saw you in the sunlight
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
I saw you in the sunlight,
When loud the birds did sing,
When your cheeks and lips
Blushed with the color of rose.

I saw you in the moonlight,
With the scent of the jasmine,
When your friendly face
Shown in the light of silver-gray.

But, my girl, I have seen you,
When I almost could not see
But only felt the skin of your lips
So near with heavenly warmth.
