Autour du toit qui nous vit naître Un pampre étalait ses rameaux ; Ses grains dorés, vers la fenêtre, Attiraient les petits oiseaux. Ma mère, étendant sa main blanche, Rapprochait les grappes de miel, Et les enfants suçaient la branche, Qu'ils rendaient aux oiseaux du ciel. L'oiseau n'est plus, la mère est morte ; Le vieux cep languit jaunissant, L'herbe d'hiver croît sur la porte, Et moi je pleure en y pensant. C'est pourquoi la vigne enlacée Aux mémoires de mon berceau, Porte à mon âme une pensée, Et doit ramper sur mon tombeau.

Kol střechy otcovského domu se vine listí révové, na zlatá zrnka s větví stromů slétali k oknu ptáčkové. Mé matky ruka sklonila tu k nám blíže s větví hroznů med; jak obírali jsme je v chvatu a vrátili je ptákům zpět! Pták odletěl, má matka v zemi, i stará réva žloutne již, kol bují tráva mezi zděmi a v duši mojí bolů tíž! Tak mladosti mé památkami vždy uvidíš se révu pnout, mé nitro kojí vzpomínkami a hrob můj musí ovinout!
