Sie grub wohl ein, sie grub wohl aus,
einen stolzen Buhlen grub sie aus.

Der Buhle hatte Gut und Gold,
Er gab dem Mädchen manchen Sold.

Er gab ihr einen Gürtel schmal,
Der war gesponnen überall.

Der war gesponnen bis aus Blut,
Das Mädchen starb in wilder Wut.

Ach, pflanzt drei Rosen auf das Grab
Dann kömmt mein Buhle und pflückt sie ab.

La fanciulla cercava un amante di valore
al punto che volle in terra scavare.

Scavò di qua, di là scavò
lo trovò infine e lo dissotterrò.

L'amante era ricco e pieno d'oro
donò alla fanciulla molto denaro.

Le diede pure un busto assai stretto
che alla fanciulla serrò forte il petto.

Serrò così forte che lei sanguinò
furente di rabbia lei allora spirò.

Sulla mia tomba tre rose piantate
verrà a raccoglierle il mio antico amante.
