Betgeläut'
Aus den Dörfern weit und breit.
Hirtenbüblein auf der Heide
Bei der Weide
Seine Hände alsobald
Über'm Käpplein falt't,
Schlägt die Augen unter sich,
Betet inniglich.

Sieh da! Engel Hand in Hand
Ihrer viere, fahrend über Land;
Wie sie ihn erblicken,
Winken sich und nicken,
Machen halt im Nu,
Treten still herzu,
Stimmen an zum Glockenklang
Ihren Lobgesang.

sonnailles
des villages éloignés :
petit pâtre sur la lande
au pré
mains jointes
au-dessus du bonnet,
les yeux baissés,
il prie intérieurement.

Regarde ! Quatre anges, main dans la main,
à travers le pays,
dès qu'ils l'aperçoivent
font signe et saluent,
s'arrêtent aussitôt,
s'avancent tranquillement,
font résonner leurs clochettes
en chant de louange.
