Es zittern und wanken noch, husch! husch!
Ihre Seelen auf seinem Federbusch;
Da liegen sie tot.

Und weiter ruft der Trompetenruf,
Er wischt an die Mähne sein nasses Schwert,
Und weiter springt sein lustiges Pferd
Mit rotem Huf.

Wat houwt hij toch scherp, wat houwt hij toch goed,
De kwieke huzaar!
 
Daar liggen zij, ha, zo bleek en rood,
Zie rillen en trillen nog, tos, tos,
Ja, hun zielen in helm en vederbos:
Daar liggen zij dood.
 
Trompetgeschal nu duldt geen vertoef;
Hij veegt aan de manen zijn natte zwaard,
En verder springt zijn dartele paard
Met rode hoef.
