Die Abendluft weht,
Dann weißt du, Ninetta,
Wer wartend hier steht.
Du weißt, wer trotz Schleier
Und Maske dich kennt,
Wie Amor die Venus
Am Nachtfirmament.

Ein Schifferkleid trag' ich
Zur selbigen Zeit,
Und zitternd dir sag' ich:
„Das Boot liegt bereit!
O, komm’! jetzt, wo Lune’n
Noch Wolken umziehn,
Laß durch die Lagunen,
Mein Leben, uns fliehn!“

De avondwind gaat,
Dan weet je, Ninetta,
Wie wachtend hier staat.
Wie ondanks je sluier
En masker jou kent,
Als Amor zijn Venus
aan 't nachtfirmament.
 
Een gondelier ben ik
In kleed en gebaar,
En bevende zeg ik:
De boot ligt al klaar!
O kom, nu nog wolken
Verhullen de maan,
Laat door de lagunen,
Geliefde, ons gaan!
