Die Peri
 Es fällt ein Tropfen aufs Land
 Ägypten, von Juniushitze verbrannt,
 Vom Mond herab,
 Von so heilender Kraft, daß zur Stunde
 Der Dämon der Pest entschwebt
 Und Gesundheit Himmel und Erde belebt.
 Läßt so, o Sünder, nicht genesen
 Dich dieser Reuetränen Fall?
 Wie glüh'nd die Wunden der Brust gewesen,
 Ein Himmelstropfen, er heilt sie all'!

Tenor-Solo mit Chor
 Und sieh, demütig betend kniet
 Der Mann dort an des Kindes Seite,
 Indes ein Sonnenstrahl auf beide,
 Den Sünder und den Reinen glüht.
 Und Hymnen durch den Himmel schweben,
 Denn einer Seele ward vergeben!
 Gesunken war der gold'ne Ball,
 Noch lagen sie auf ihren Knien,
 Da fiel ein rein'rer, schön'rer Strahl,
 Als je aus Sonn'und Sternen schien,
 Auf jene Träne.
 Hymnen durch den Himmel schweben,
 Denn einer Seele ward vergeben!
 Ein sterblich' Auge nähm' ihn zwar
 Als Meteor, als Nordlicht wahr,
 Doch weiß die Peri wohl: der Schein,
 Es muß des Engels Lächeln sein,
 Womit er mild die Träne grüßt,
 Die bald den Himmel ihr erschließt.

La Peri
 Sobre la tierra de Egipto, 
 quemada por el calor de junio, 
 cae desde la Luna una gota  
 de tal poder sanador, que al instante
 el demonio de la peste huye
 y la salud vivifica Cielo y Tierra. 
 ¿No te cura, oh pecador, 
 la caída de esta lágrima de arrepentimiento?
 ¡Por mucho que quemen las heridas del corazón, 
 una gota del Cielo las cura todas!

Tenor y coro
 Y ved, humilde se arrodilla en oración
 el hombre, al lado del niño, 
 mientras un rayo de sol a ambos
 baña, al pecador y al puro.
 ¡Y se oyen himnos que el cielo atraviesan, 
 pues un alma ha sido perdonada!
 Se ha ocultado la dorada esfera, 
 en tanto que ellos de rodillas están, 
 y cae un rayo, el más puro y hermoso,
 que se haya visto del Sol o las estrellas, 
 sobre esta lágrima. 
 ¡Se oyen himnos que el cielo atraviesan, 
 pues un alma ha sido perdonada!
 Para ojos mortales sería
 un meteoro, una aurora boreal, 
 pero la Peri bien lo sabe: el resplandor
 es la sonrisa del ángel, 
 con la cual acoge benigno la lágrima
 que pronto el cielo le abrirá.
