     Si le bon Dieu l’avait voulu – lanturlurette, lanturlu – j’aurais
connu la Cléopâtre, et je ne t’aurais pas connue. Las ! que fussé-je
devenu sans ton amour que j’idolâtre ? Mais le bon Dieu n’a pas
voulu – lanturlurette et lanturlu – que je connaisse Cléopâtre. Gloire
à Dieu au plus haut des nues !

     Si le bon Dieu l’avait voulu – lanturlurette, lanturlu – j’aurais
connu, vêtues ou nues, j’aurais connu la Messaline, Agnès, Odette
et Mélusine, Eve, plus belle que le jour, Noémi, Sara, Rebecca,
j’aurais connu la Pompadour, la fille du Royal-Tambour, et la
Mogador et Clara.

     Mais le bon Dieu a bien voulu – lanturlurette, lanturlu – que je
connaisse mes amours. Tu m’as connu, je t’ai connue. Las ! que
fussé-je devenu sans toi la nuit, sans toi le jour ? Mais le bon Dieu
a bien voulu – gloire à Dieu au plus haut des nues ! – que je
connaisse mes amours, lanturlurette et lanturlu !
