Die Nachtigall saß im Laub und sang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Die Nachtigall saß im Laub und sang
Von Lieb' und Liebeswonne,
Die Blumen öffneten bei dem Klang
Des Auges verliebte Sonne.

Und unter dem Blüthenbaum küßt' ich Dich,
Worüber Du lachend erschrocken,
Es flochten die Zweige Dir feierlich
Den bräutlichen Kranz in die Locken.

Und als die Blumen verwundert sahn,
Wie ich Dich selig umschlungen,
Hat schöner ihr Auge sich aufgethan,
Die Nachtigall süßer gesungen.

The nightingale sat in the foliage
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The nightingale sat in the foliage and sang
Of love and love's bliss,
At the sound the flowers opened
Their love-struck sun-like eyes.

And under the blossoming tree I kissed you,
At which you were laughingly startled.
The branches solemnly wove for you
The bridal wreath for your curls.

And when the flowers wonderingly [saw]1
How I held you rapturously embraced,
Their eyes opened more beautifully,
The nightingale sang more sweetly.
