Ich will, ich darf mit ihr mich nicht versöhnen,
der Wüste, der Wüste.

Sie hat das Meer gekannt und es verachtet,
sie hat die Sonne allzulang betrachtet,
nun ist sie bleich, daß ihr die Gurgel schmachtet.
Du Wüste!  Du Wüste!

Wann wird dein Blut dir in den Adern kühlen?
Wann wird dein Sand am Weg zum Meer sich wühlen?
