L’home que és just sense coerció,
no serà mai infeliç,
no pot caure mai en la dissort;
mentrestant, el malfactor culpable
s’enfonsa violentament en el corrent del temps,
quan del masteler destrossat,
el temporal arrenca les veles.
Ell demana auxili però ningú el sent,
es debat al mig del remolí, sense esperança.
Llavors els déus es riuen del malfactor
tot esguardant-lo, ha perdut l’arrogància,
embolcat en les grapes del destret.
Tracta endebades d’evitar els esculls:
a la roca del rescabalament naufraga la seva sort
i ell s’enfonsa sense ser plorat.
