Our translations:  GER
Han sagde mig så meget, jeg nok gad forstå;
Men alt, hvad jeg sagde, var "Johan, jeg må gå!"
Han har mig om himlen og jorden fortalt,
Om livet og døden - jeg husker ej alt.
 
Han sagde mig så meget, jeg nok gad forstå;
Men alt, hvad jeg sagde, var: "Johan, jeg må gå!"
Han holdt mig ved hånden og bad mig især
dog rigtig af hjertet at have ham kær.
 
Jeg blev jo ej vred og kan ikke forstå,
At altid jeg svared: "Johan, jeg må gå!"
 
Nu står jeg og tænker og tænker, hvordan
Jeg ikke fik sagt: "Ja, min egen Johan!"
 
Dog - kommer han nu, kan jeg intet forstå,
Men svarer jo atter: "Johan, jeg må gå!"
