Des weines geist begann im fass zu singen:
Mensch - teurer ausgestossener - dir soll
Durch meinen engen kerker durch erklingen
Ein lied von licht und bruderliebe voll.

Ich weiss: am sengendheissen bergeshange
Bei schweiss und mühe nur gedeih ich recht
Da meine seele ich nur so empfange
Doch bin ich niemals undankbar und schlecht.

Und dies bereitet mir die grösste labe
Wenn eines arbeit-matten mund mich hält 
Sein heisser schlund wird mir zum kühlen grabe
Das mehr als kalte keller mir gefällt.

Hörst du den sonntagsang aus frohem schwarme?
Nun kehrt die hoffnung prickelnd in mich ein:
Du stülpst die ärmel - stützest beide arme
Du wirst mich preisen und zufrieden sein.

Ich mache deines weibes augen heiter
Und deinem sohne leih ich frische kraft
Ich bin für diesen zarten lebensstreiter
Das öl das fechtern die gewandheit schafft.

Und du erhältst von diesem pflanzenseime
Den Gott - der ewige sämann - niedergiesst
Damit in deiner brust die dichtkunst keime
Die wie ein seltner baum zum himmel spriesst.

L'ànima del vi

L'esperit del vi començà a cantar a la bóta:
Homes, estimats pàries, us ha de sonar
a través de la meva estreta presó
una cançó plena de llum i fraternitat.

Sé que a les abrusadores vessants de la muntanya 
només si arriba amb calor i esforç,
només allà rebo la meva ànima
i mai no soc desagraït ni dolent.

i això em prepara per al millor refresc
quan una boca esgotada pel treball s'atura,
la seva càlida gargamella se'm converteix en una freda tomba
que m'agrada més que un gelada presó.

Sents ara la cançó dominical de l'alegre gentada?
L'esperança  entra bullint dintre meu,
t'arremangues les mànegues, recolzes els dos braços
em lloaràs i estaràs content.

Feràs brillar els ulls de la teva dóna
i als teus fills els hi deixo novella força,
sóc per a aquestes tendres vides guerreres
l'oli que dóna agilitat als lluitadors. 

I obtens que Déu -- l'etern Sembrador -
vessi aquestes llavors de plantes, 
perquè germini en el teu pit l'art de la poesia,
que creix cap al cel com un arbre especial.
