Czasem mię gniewa księżyc srebrnolicy,
co w noc wiosenną skrada się z za chmur,
by nam miłosne wydrzeć tajemnice.
Lecz gdy pomyślę, że biedny samotnik
w zimnej gwiazd ciszy, tęskne pędząc noce,
nigdy płomieniem nie gorzał miłości,
Tak mi go żal, tak żal!

Lonely moon

Sometimes the moon with silver-hued face,
Angers me, creeping through springtime clouds,
To pry on our love’s secret vows.
But when I think this poor lonely wanderer
Drifts through the cold, star-haunted silence,
Never once burned with love’s fierce fire
My heart softens, how I pity him!
