Es war ein Markgraf überm Rhein, der hatt drei schöne Töchterlein. Zwei Töchter früh heiraten weg, die dritt hat ihn ins Grab gelegt; dann ging sie sing'n vor Schwesters Tür: ach braucht ihr keine Dienstmagd hier? ,,Ei Mädchen, du bist viel zu fein, du gehst gern mit den Herrelein.`` Ach nein, ach nein, das tu ich nicht, ich will erfüllen meine Pflicht. Sie dingt das Mägdlein auf ein Jahr, das Mägdlein dient ihr sieben Jahr. Und als die seiben Jahr warn um, da ward das Mägdlein schwach und krank. ,,Ach Mägdlein, wenn du krank sollst sein, so sag, wer sind die Eltern dein?`` Mein Vater war Markgraf am Rhein, ich bin sein jüngstes Töchterlein.`` ,,Ach nein, ach nein, das glaub ich nicht, daß du mein jüngste Schwester bist.`` Und wenn du mir nicht glauben willst, so geh an meine Kiste her, daran tut es geschrieben stehn, da kannst dus mit dein'n Augen sehn. Und als sie an die Kiste kam, da rannen ihr die Tränen ab; ,,Ach, bringt mir Weck, ach bringt mir Wein, das ist mein jüngstes Schwesterlein!`` Ich will kein Weck, ich will kein Wein, will nur ein kleines Särgelein!

Dues d’elles es casaren joves i marxaren, la tercera l’acompanyà a la tomba; després anà a trucar a la porta de la seva germana: “Ei, necessiteu una criada aquí?” “Ei noia, tu ets massa bonica i aniràs de gresca amb els senyorets.” “Ai no, ai no, això no ho faré pas, acompliré les meves obligacions.” Ella la contractà per un any i la noia restà set anys al seu servei. I quan s’acabà el setè any, la noia havia esdevingut feble i malalta. “Ai noia, si estàs malalta, digues, qui són els teus pares?” “El meu pare era un marquès al Rin, jo sóc la seva filla més jove.” “Ai no, ai no, no crec pas que tu siguis la meva germana petita.” “Si no ho vols creure, vés allà al meu cofre, en ell ho trobaràs escrit, i ho podràs veure amb els teus ulls.” I quan ella arribà al cofre li queien les llàgrimes. “Ai, porteu-me pa, ai, porteu-me vi, és la meva germana petita!” “No vull pa, no vull vi, vull només un petit taüt!”
