Und die Mutter schlief,
Und in Gärtchen blühte der Mai.
Ich war ein Kind,
Und der Juniwind
Strich schwül an der Linde vorbei.

Vom alten Baum
Warf ein Sommertraum
Mir ein blühend Zweiglein ins Haar.
Du küßtest mich,
Und ich liebte dich --
Ich wußte von keiner Gefahr.

Nun bist du weit . . .
Meine Sehnsucht schreit
Wie ein Kind nach der Mutter, nach dir.
Mein Herz ist müd',
Und mein Leib verblüht . . .
Geliebter, was thatest du mir?

i el maig floria al jardí,
jo era un infant
i el vent de juny
xafogós acaronava el til·ler.

Des del vell arbre
un somni d’estiu em gità
un branquilló florit als cabells,
tu em besaves
i jo t’estimava,
no temia cap perill.

Adés tu ets lluny,
el meu enyor avança cap a tu,
com un infant vers la mare.
El meu cor està fatigat
i el meu cos marcit,
estimat, què m’has fet!
