Среди гостей в одной рубашке
стоял задумчиво Петров.
Молчали гости. На камине
железный градусник висел.
Молчали гости. Над камином
висел охотничий рожок.
Петров стоял. Часы стучали.
Дрожал в камине огонёк.
И гости мрачные молчали.
Петров стоял. Трещал камин.
Часы показывали восемь.
Железный градусник сверкал.
Часы таинственно молчали.
Дрожал в камине огонёк.
Петров задумчиво садился
на табуретку. Вдруг звонок
в прихожей бешено залился
и щёлкнул аглицкий замок.
Петров вскочил и гости тоже.
Рожок охотничий трубит.
Петров кричит: «О Боже, Боже!» —
и на пол падает, убит.
И гости мечутся и плачут,
железный градусник трясут,
через Петрова с криком скачут
и в двери страшный гроб несут.
И, в гроб закупорив Петрова,
уходят с криками «Готово!»

Tarpe svečių ir vienmarškinis
Stovėjo Petras toks mąslus.
Svečiai tylėjo. Ant krosnelės
Kabojo termometras metalinis.
Svečiai tylėjo. Virš krosnelės
Medžioklių ragas sau kabojo.
Stovėjo Petras. Laikas mušė.
Krosnelėje ugnis virpėjo.
Ir niūriai taip svečiai tylėjo.
Stovėjo Petras. Krosnis traška.
Aštuntą rodė laikrodis.
Žaviai termometras spindėjo.
Slaptingai laikrodis tylėjo.
Krosnelėje ugnis virpėjo.
Mąslusis Petras atsisėdo
Ant taburetės. Ir skambutis
Žvaliai koridoriuj suskambo
Spyna mįslingai sutraškėjo.
Pašoko Petras ir svečiai.
Medžioklių ragas suskambėjo.
Sušuko Petras: „Dieve, Dieve!“ – 
Ir krito ant grindų nukautas.
Svečiai sumišo, ėmė verkti,
Ir termometrą ėmė krėst,
Per Petrą šaukdami žirglioti
Ir nešti karstą pro duris.
Ir Petrą tan karstan įkišę,
Išėjo, šaukdami „Įvyko!“
