  Hüben noch Eis und Schnee;
Drüben am Strande
Lächeln -- vergiß dein Weh! -- 
Sonnig die Lande.
  Hüben noch trüb und kalt[,]
Drüben doch glüht der Wald:
Frühling wird kommen,
Kommen gar bald! 

  Hüben ein Vöglein sitzt,
Sträubt das Gefieder;
Drüben die Welle blitzt,
Lockt es hernieder.
  Lustig dem Frost zum Hohn,
Siehe! wie fliegt es schon
Hin durch den Schimmer
Auf und davon! 

  Werden die Hügel auch
Drüben schon blässer;
Kräuselt ein scharfer Hauch
Rings das Gewässer:
  Hüben es wiederhallt,
Und mir im Herzen schallt:
Frühling wird kommen,
Kommen gar bald!

  Here still ice and snow;
Yonder along the shore
A smile -- forget your woe! --
The countryside is sunny.
  Here it is still dreary and cold[,]
But yonder the forest is gleaming:
Spring shall come,
Shall come very soon!

  Here a birdlet sits,
Ruffling its feathers;
Yonder the wave sparkles,
Enticing it to descend.
  Merrily defying the frost,
Look! how it already flies
Through the shimmer,
Up and away!

  Though yonder hills
Are already growing paler;
[Though] a sharp breeze is already
Rippling the waters all around:
  Here it echoes,
And in my heart resounds:
Spring shall come,
Shall come very soon!
