Het wapen dat Trojanen bezorgd' een wisse dood, Dat op het woeste eiland mij overleving bood. Er ruisen vogelzwermen rond om mijn grijze hoofd; Ik wil mijn boog vlug grijpen: vergeefs, hij is geroofd! Het bruine hert breekt rits'lend uit struiken dicht en droog: Ik strek mijn lege armen naar Nemesis omhoog. Jij, sluwe koning, vrees toch het godd'lijk wrekend oog! Erbarm je toch en geef mij terug mijn eigen boog.
