Auf einem schönen Röss'li,
Ku-ku-kuk, ku-ku-kuk!
Da lugt die Frau zum Fenster aus
Und sagt: "Der Mann ist nicht zu Haus,
Und niemand heim als meine Kind',
Und's Mädchen ist auf der Wäschewind!"

Der Herr auf seinem Rösseli
Sagt zu der Frau im Schlösseli:
Ku-ku-kuk, ku-ku-kuk!
"Sind's gute Kind', sind's böse Kind'?
Ach, liebe Frau, ach sagt geschwind,"
Ku-ku-kuk, ku-ku-kuk!

"In meiner Tasch' für folgsam Kind',
Da hab' ich manche Angebind,"
Ku-ku-kuk, ku-ku-kuk!
Die Frau die sagt: "Sehr böse Kind'!
Sie folgen Mutter nicht geschwind,

In sella al suo piccolo cavallo,
Cucù,cucù, cucù!
Al balcone si affacciò la castellana
E disse: "Mio marito non si trova in casa,
solo i miei bimbi mi fanno compagnia,
per risciacquare i panni la serva è pure via!"

Il signore sul piccolo cavallo
disse alla donna del piccolo castello:
Cucù,cucù, cucù!
"I bimbi sono buoni o sono cattivi?
Subito, mia bella castellana, dirmelo devi"
Cucù,cucù, cucù!

"Nella bisaccia, per i bimbi buoni
io tengo conservati molti doni"
Cucù,cucù, cucù!
Disse la dama: "Sono monelli assai!
Alla loro mamma non ubbidiscono mai,
Tanto monelli, che non ne posso più!"

Disse il signore: "A casa voglio andarmene,
di bimbi simili non so proprio che farmene!"
