When I saw Rosina, My heart burned with joy, And I must simply suffer it, Her image is always before me. Do not speak to me of Marietta, Of Teresa, of Carolina, For neither here nor there Can I find a sweetheart like Rosina. As a soldier I travelled All the way to far-off England, And on land and sea I was fortunate in love. I was in France as well, And there I found many women, All adorable to look upon, But no good for loving. I received a little letter From the courier-boat of the marines, [Saying that] Rosina is in despair, For I have stayed away too long. To a speedy reunion! She said with lips and hands. Come home soon, beloved, In order to end Rosina’s grief!
