Als ich die Rosina schaute
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Als ich die Rosina schaute,
Brannte mir das Herz vor Freuden,
Und ich muß es eben leiden,
Immer steht ihr Bild vor mir.
Sprecht mir nicht von Marietta,
Von Teresa, Carolina,
Denn ein Liebchen wie Rosina
Find' ich weder dort noch hier.

Als Soldat bin ich gewesen
Bis zum fernsten Engellande,
Und zu Wasser wie zu Lande
Hatt' ich in der Liebe Glück.
Bin nach Frankreich auch gekommen,
Und da fand ich viele Frauen,
Alle niedlich anzuschauen,
Doch zum Lieben nicht geschickt.

Ich erhielt ein kleines Briefchen
Vom Kurierschiff der Marine,
In Verzweiflung sei Rosine,
Denn zu lange blieb' ich aus.
Auf ein baldig Wiedersehen!
Sagte sie mit Mund und Händen.
Komm, Rosina's Gram zu enden,
Liebster, kehre bald nach Haus!

When I saw Rosina
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
When I saw Rosina,
My heart burned with joy,
And I must simply suffer it,
Her image is always before me.
Do not speak to me of Marietta,
Of Teresa, of Carolina,
For neither here nor there
Can I find a sweetheart like Rosina.

As a soldier I travelled
All the way to far-off England,
And on land and sea
I was fortunate in love.
I was in France as well,
And there I found many women,
All adorable to look upon,
But no good for loving.

I received a little letter
From the courier-boat of the marines,
[Saying that] Rosina is in despair,
For I have stayed away too long.
To a speedy reunion!
She said with lips and hands.
Come home soon, beloved,
In order to end Rosina’s grief!
