Снијег паде о Ђурђеву дану,
Не може га тица прелетјети,
Дјевојка га боса прегазила;
За њом братац папучице носи:
"Јел' ти, сејо, по ногама зима?" --
"Није мени по ногама зима,
"Већ је мени по мом срцу зима;
"Ал' ми није са снијега зима,
"Већ је мени с моје мајке зима,
"Која ме је за недрага дала."

Hielt sich nicht das Vöglein in den Lüften,
Barfuß wadete hindurch das Mädchen,
Ihre Schuhe tragend, folgt ihr Bruder.
"Ist Dir kalt an Deinen Füßen, Schwester?"
"Nicht an meinen Füßen, o mein Bruder!
Aber kalt ist mir um's arme Herze!
Doch der Schnee nicht hat es mir erkältet;
Meine Mutter hat es mir erkältet,
Die dem Ungeliebten mich gegeben!"
